Abstract

Target: To identify of histopathological and immunohistochemical characteristics of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma.

Subjects and methods: The study of pathological and immunohistochemical characteristics, conducted on 169 papillary microcarcinoma and copared with 135 calssical papillary thyroid carcinoma, at the Center for Research and Early Detection of Cancer. Samples were processed, HE stained, immunohistochemical staining with 4 marker: CK7, CK19, HBME-1, Galectin-3.

Results: The papillary microcarcinoma is mainly localized type (97.6%) and non encapsule (87,6%). Immunohistochemical stain is positive for CK7, CK19, HBME-1 and Galectin-3 in both groups. The range invasion of papilary thyroid microcarcinoma is 70,5% when immunohistochemical stain is all positive for CK19, HBME-1 and Galectin-3.

Conclusion: Histopathological and immunohistochemical characteristics of papillary microcarcinoma is as similar as calssical papillary thyroid carcinoma. A panel of CK9, HBME-1 and Galectin – 3 identifies the high risk of microinvasion in papillary thyroid carcinoma.
