Abstract

Objectives: Evaluate the effectiveness of electroacupuncture combined Doc hoat tang ky sinh capsule in treating lumbar spondylosis.

Subjects and methods: A controlled-prospective clinical intervention study comparing before - after treatment was held on 76 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of lumbar spondylosis, divided into two groups: 38 patients in the study group were treated by Doc hoat tang ky sinh capsule combined with electroacupuncture and 38 patients in the control group were treated by electroacupuncture at Department of Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation, Medical Center of Thuan An City, Binh Duong province from March 2022 to the end of September 2022.  

Results: After 21 days of treatment, all patients had reduced VAS pain points, increased lumbar spine's range of motion and stretching, and improved daily functional limitations according to the Roland Moris Disability Questionnaire. Overall treatment efficiency: in the study group: Good accounted for 68.42%; Fair: 31.58%. In the control group: Good accounted for 57.89%; Fair: 42.11%. The treatment effect of the study group tended to be higher than that of the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant, with p>0.05.

Conclusions: Doc hoat tang ky sinh capsule combined with electroacupuncture is safe and effective in treating lumbar spondylosis.
