Abstract

Objectives: Describe the current situation of using traditional medicine in medical examination and treatment at the commune health station of Nong Cong district, Thanh Hoa province, in 2021 and design a model to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions to improve medical examination and treatment using traditional medicine at the commune health station of Nong Cong district, Thanh Hoa province in 2022.

Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study, secondary data analysis and a controlled community intervention study. Subjects: Commune health station heads and employees directly involved in medical examination and treatment using traditional medicine and reports.

Results: After one year of intervention, the knowledge of medical staff specializing in traditional medicine improved markedly from Moderate and Poor (before intervention) to Good (after intervention). The rate of medical examination and treatment using traditional medicine at the commune health stations of the two intervented communes has increased markedly, from 33.8% (before the intervention) to 53.9% (after the intervention). Effectiveness ratio=59.5% and effectiveness ofintervention =46.9%.

Conclusions: The rate of medical examination and treatment with traditional medicine of the two communes' health stations has increased markedly compared with before the intervention. Knowledge, as well as practising skills of employees about acupuncture and traditional medicine prescription, also increased significantly.
