Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the experimental anti-gastric ulcer effect of ethyl acetate fractionated extract of Herba Murdanniae bracteatae (MNC1).

Subjects and methods: Research the anti-gastric ulcer effect of MNC1 on the gastric ulcer model caused by indomethacin in Wistar white rats.

Results: The results showed that MNC1 protected mucosa on the gastric ulcer model caused by indomethacin in white rats. It insignificantly reduced the rate of rats with gastric ulcers compared to that of the model group (p>0.05). Moreover, it statistically significantly reduced the ulcer indexes and ulcer inhibition rate of rats (p<0.05).

Conclusions: Ethyl acetate fractionated extract from Herba Murdanniae bracteatae at a regimen dose of 180 mg/kg/day for 10 consecutive days has the remarkable effect of inhibiting ulcers by 23.23% compared to that of the model group (p<0.05). In addition, Herba Murdanniae bracteatae extracts also reduce macroscopic and microscopic damages to rats’ stomach.
