Abstract

Objective: To develop a formulation process for Duhuo Tang Jisheng hard pills and to evaluate the quality of the prepared pills.

Subjects and methods: Hard pills were formulated from the medicinal herbs in the Duhuo Tang Jisheng formula (Vietnamese Pharmacopoeia V) using the pill-dividing method. The quality of the hard pills was evaluated according to the standards of the Vietnamese Pharmacopoeia V.

Results: The formulation of the Duhuo Tang Jisheng hard pills includes the medicinal ingredients from the traditional formula along with excipients such as sodium benzoate, activated charcoal, honey, beeswax, and purified water. The preparation process involves powder and extract preparation, moistening, pill forming, coating, drying, and packaging. The pills met the quality standards of the Vietnamese Pharmacopoeia V with respect to the following criteria: appearance, loss on drying, disintegration, uniformity of mass, identification, and microbial contamination limits.

Conclusion: The formulation and preparation process for Duhuo Tang Jisheng hard pills meeting the standards of the Vietnamese Pharmacopoeia V has been successfully developed, contributing to the diversification of pill formulation methods, with potential applications in pharmaceutical production and education.
