Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effects of the Tat Thung Phuong combined with therapeutic ultrasound in treating patients with knee osteoarthritis effusion.

Subject and methods: Clinical intervention study, comparing the results before and after treatment, comparison with the control group. 80 patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis effusion were divided into two groups: the study group treated with Tat Thung Phuong combined with therapeutic ultrasound, and the control group treated with Y Di Nhan Thang combined with therapeutic ultrasound.

Results: After 21 days of treatment, the VAS score decreased by 88.2%, the Lequesne score decreased by 41.5%, the knee joint range of motion increased by 15.6%, effusion average decreased by 80.9%. The treatment outcomes better than before the treatment (p<0.001) and in the control group.

Conclusion: Tat Thung Phuong combined with therapeutic ultrasound effectively reduces pain, knee joint function improves, improves joint range of motion, and reduces effusion in patients with knee osteoarthritis effusion.
