Abstract
Objective: To describe disease patterns at Lai Chau Traditional Medicine Hospital during 2023–2024.
Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted using all medical records from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024. Records with complete demographic information, ICD-10 codes, and traditional medicine post-treatment codes were extracted from the hospital management software.
Results: The 40–49 age group accounted for the highest proportion (23.5%–28%), followed by 30–39 years (20.8%–24.1%), with a mean age of 48.5–51.2. Females predominated in outpatient visits (55.4%–62.3%). Retirees (22.1% – 29.2%) and workers (22,7% – 27,4%) were the most common occupational groups, while farmers accounted for 19,3% – 23,3%, and other occupations <10%. According to ICD-10 classification, musculoskeletal and connective tissue diseases (M00–M99) were most prevalent (2023: 52.4% – 63.1%; 2024: 55.8% – 56.9%), followed by symptoms and signs not elsewhere classified (R00–R99, 4.8% – 14.9%), and respiratory and cardiovascular diseases (5% – 13%). Regarding traditional medicine post-treatment syndromes, Toa cot phong (27.5% – 41.6%) and Kien ty (16.6% – 20.9%) were most common.
Conclusion: Patients were predominantly middle-aged and elderly, mainly suffering from musculoskeletal and chronic diseases.
