Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of electroacupuncture combined with moxibustion in patients with lumbar pain due to lumbar spondylosis.

Subject and methods: A controlled before-after clinical intervention study was conducted on 80 patients with lumbar spondylosis of the Kidney-yang deficiency pattern. Participants were randomly assigned to a treatment group and a control group. The study was carried out at the Phu Tho Provincial Hospital of Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation from April to October 2025.

Results: After 21 days of treatment, the study group demonstrated significant improvements: the VAS score decreased from 4.76 points to 1.28 points; lumbar spine flexibility increased from 12.61 cm to 14.82 cm; the range of motion of the lumbar spine (flexion, extension, lateral bending, rotation) was enhanced; the ODI score for daily living function decreased from 10.08 points to 3.68 points. The overall treatment effectiveness was fairly good, reaching 90%. The difference between the study group and the control group was statistically significant (p<0.05).

Conclusion: Electroacupuncture combined with moxibustion is effective in treating lumbar pain due to lumbar spondylosis, demonstrating reductions in pain, increases in lumbar mobility, improved lumbar flexibility, and enhanced daily functional capacity.
