THE EFFICACY OF NGU TY THANG REMEDY COMBINED WITH ELECTROACUPUNCTURE IN THE TREATMENT OF SIMPLE PERIARTHRITIS OF THE SHOULDER

Abstract
Objectives: To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of Ngu Ty Thang remedy combined with electroacupuncture on selected clinical and sub-clinical parameters in patients with simple periarthritis of the shoulder, and to assess the adverse effects of Ngu Ty Thang remedy.
Subjects and methods: A controlled clinical intervention study, featuring pre- and post-treatment comparisons was conducted on patients diagnosed with simple periarthritis of the shoulder according to Modern Medicine, "Kien ty" syndrome ("Kien thong" - shoulder pain - type) according to traditional medicine treated at the Ministry of public security Traditional Medicine hospital.
Results: After 21 days of treatment, the intervention group (IG) achieved outstanding therapeutic efficacy compared to the control group (CG) (p<0.01). The Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score in the IG decreased sharply to 0.97±0.49 (compared to 1.50±0.51 in the CG). The shoulder range of motion (flexion, abduction) and the total SPADI score (28.87±9.14) in the IG showed comprehensive improvements, which were distinctly better than those in the CG (p<0.01). The rate of overall treatment outcomes classified as "Good" in the IG reached 80.0%, markedly higher than that in the CG (36.7%) with p<0.01.
Conclusion: The combination regimen of electroacupuncture and Ngu Ty Thang remedy is safe and provides optimal efficacy in the treatment of simple periarthritis of the shoulder.
