Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the effects of the effect of electro-acupuncture on patients with overactive bladder.

Subjects and methods: 60 patients aged over 18 with diagnosis of overactive bladder, were volunteered to participate in the study. The study group was treated using electro-acupuncture and Solifenacin 5mg/day while the control group was treated with Solifenacin 5mg/day only. Compare the results before and after treatment.

Results: After treatment, the frequency of urinary urgency in the study group reduced from 6,47 ± 1,53 to

0,83 ± 0,70 (times) with p < 0,05 and better than the control group (p < 0,01), the frequency of urinary during daytime reduced from 9,30 ± 1,99 to 5,97 ± 1,13 (times) with p < 0,05 and better than the control group (p = 0,01), the frequency of nocturia reduced from 2,60 ± 1,00 to 0,87 ± 0,43 (times) with p < 0,05 and better than control group (p < 0,01), the frequency of urge incontinence reduced from 1,23 ± 1,79 to 0,03 ± 0,18 (times) (p < 0.05). OABSS Homma score was cut down from 9,53 ± 2,50 to 4,07 ± 1,53 with p < 0.05 and better than the control group (p < 0,01). UDI-6 (Quality of Life) score was scaled down from 6,80 ± 1,73 to 2,27 ± 1,11 with p < 0.05 and better than control group (p < 0,01).

Conclusion: Electro-acupuncture is effective in treating overactive bladder.
