QUANTITATION OF CURCUMINOID IN RHIZOMA CURCUMAE LONGAE USING UV-VIS METHOD
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To develop and validate of curcuminoid quantification method in turmeric rhizomes by UV-Vis spectroscopy.
Subjects and methods: Fresh turmeric is purchased in some northern provinces (Ha Noi, Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang…). Total curcuminoids are quantified by UV – Vis spectrometry, which is evaluated according to AOAC guidelines.
Results: The study has developed a method for quantifying curcuminoids in tumeric rhizomes and rapid quantification of total curcuminoid content with a high-accuracy UV – Vis spectroscopy system with a recovery rate of 98,3% - 101,13%, relative standard deviation (RSD) <2% and high accuracy. The total curcuminoid content expressed as curcumin, ranged from 3.56–16.84% (w/w) across the provinces; the curcuminoid content from Quảng Ninh Province did not meet the content specification of the Pharmacopoeia Vietnamica V.
Conclusions: A method for quantifying total curcuminoids in turmeric rhizomes by UV – Vis spectroscopy has been developed.
