Abstract

Objective: To assess the satisfaction levels and identify related factors among inpatients with sciatica treated at the Ministry of Public Security Traditional Medicine Hospital in 2026.

Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 256 inpatients with sciatica at the Ministry of Public Security Traditional Medicine Hospital from December 2025 to April 2026. Participants were recruited using convenience sampling. Patient satisfaction with nursing care was assessed using a 19-item questionnaire based on a 5-point Likert scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0; statistical significance was set at p<0.05.

Results: The mean age of the patients was 58.0 ± 13.7 years; 72.0% were female, and 40.6% had sciatica secondary to lumbar disc herniation. Pain improved markedly after treatment: 74.2% of patients reported no pain (VAS = 0), while 25.8% reported mild pain (VAS 1-3); no patients experienced moderate or severe pain at discharge. The overall mean satisfaction score for nursing care was 4.39 ± 0.77, with 80.9% of patients reporting satisfaction. The highest-rated domain was discharge education and post-discharge support, whereas the care environment received the lowest rating. Educational attainment at the vocational or higher level was significantly associated with patient satisfaction (OR = 2.46; 95% CI: 1.14-5.28; p = 0.018).

Conclusion: Inpatients with sciatica reported a relatively high level of satisfaction with nursing care. Maintaining care quality, improving the treatment environment, and strengthening health education for patients are recommended.
